SHARJAH AIRPORT RECEIVES FIRST ‘FLY OYA’ FLIGHT FROM LIBYA

The first “Fly Oya” trip from Tripoli, Libya, to Sharjah Airport is scheduled to arrive in 2024, according to a statement released by the Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA). This aligns with the Authority’s aspirational endeavours to broaden the airport’s flight path.

Every Wednesday, the airline will run a single weekly flight from Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport. The Airbus A330 has been assigned to the Libyan carrier for its upcoming operations to and from Sharjah Airport.

With approximately 98,000 aeroplane movements in 2023 compared to about 87,000 in 2022, there was a 12,5% rise in air traffic. Additionally, about 141,000 tonnes of cargo were handled through Sharjah Airport in 2023.

The inaugural flight of Fly Jinnah, a popular low-cost airline in Pakistan run by the Lakson Group of Pakistan and the Air Arabia Group of the United Arab Emirates, landed at Sharjah Airport. H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, H.E. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the UAE, Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer, Air Arabia, Iqbal Ali Lakhani, Chairman of Fly Jinnah, and several representatives from the Authority, Air Arabia, and the Pakistani airline attended the ceremony to welcome the new carrier. 

It will run two daily flights on the route connecting Sharjah and Islamabad. The action is consistent with Sharjah Airport’s ongoing efforts to provide a broad range of services to its partners, meet the demands of both operators and passengers and guarantee a seamless operation.
