Sharjah International Airport in Sharjah, UAE[2023]

Sharjah International Airport(SHJ), UAE

SHJ is the main international airport serving Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. It has been the hub for domestic and international travel within the United Arab Emirates since 1932.

The airport has grown to accommodate an increasing number of regional and international aircraft. It was named the Official Referrer for Air Arabia in 2003.

Air Arabia was the first low-cost airline in the Middle East, and it helped increase air traffic by exploring unexplored areas within a 5-hour flying radius.

Sharjah International Airport handles arrival and departure requirements in less than 20 minutes and is a dynamic, handy hub. The airport is conveniently situated 15 kilometres from the emirate of Dubai and 10 km from the centre of Sharjah. Additionally, it is a short distance from the Northern Emirates of Ajman, Umm. The airport offers connectivity to the major Gulf ports, with direct services to both Sharjah seaports. Modern motorways that pass across the UAE connect it to other emirates, making it easy to often commute to city centres, airports, and seaports.

The airport’s development Sharjah Airport was constructed in the 1970s. Operations started on January 1, 1977, and its significance increased significantly beginning in the 1990s when the US Air Force used it as a base for attacks during the Gulf War. Since there are no direct flights from Italy to Sharjah, the airport serves only civil aviation today.

Despite this, the airport sees an impressive 12 million international transit travellers annually.

Airports and airlines a number Due to the lack of a congested Dubai airport, Sharjah is served by several major airlines. The Sharjah International Airport’s terminal is up-to-date and functional; inside, will find a duty-free shop, a restaurant area, a medical clinic, a mosque, a smoking area, a lounge, and, of course, a tonne of shops and essential amenities like a phone, a currency exchange, and an ATM. Connections from the airport to Sharjah or Dubai’s downtown Taxis or luxury buses are the only ways to go from the airport to the city of Sharjah.

Compared to the north of Dubai (i.e., the neighbourhoods near the Creek), it takes a taxi about 15 minutes to get to the centre of Sharjah.

It is undoubtedly possible to rent a car to have more independence. The directions are easy and clear with Latin characters to make them more accessible to visitors and non-Arab workers. Transfer and Taxi to/from Sharjah Airport Private (or shared) transfers are a great, albeit slightly more expensive, alternative to public transportation, especially if travel with others.
